Recently I wrote about Putting The Heart Back Into Homeschooling and told you about how I just went through a time of regrouping and reflection regarding my approach to homeschooling. One of the values I realized was important to me and had been neglecting was a love and study of nature.
So without realizing it, I’ve begun a series of printable packs addressing items on my list of homeschool values that I want to incorporate more into our lives. Last week I created a Curiosity Driven Report Writing pack to facilitate report writing for my young kids. This week, studying nature was on my heart so I created this Nature Explorer Guide to help walk my little ones through the process of learning through exploring nature.
Of all the materials I’ve created, this is one of my absolute favorite lesson packs yet.
We invited some friends to come over and go on a nature hike to try it out. We had such a great time. There are many activities to choose from in the guide – completing half of them earns your child the Nature Explorer badge and certificate.
I sincerely hope that you enjoy this guide. I would love to hear your constructive feedback!
We found another use for our light table! We placed our creek water sample on the light table and inspected it with a magnifying glass. Don’t have a light table? Make your own DIY Light Table!
Guide Preparation Instructions: If your printer has a double sided printing option, select the 2 sided printing version and print as-is with the double sided printing option chosen. If you do not have this setting but want the double sided folded guide, print even pages, then flip the paper and reinsert it and print the odd pages, according to how your printer works. If you don’t want to mess with printing on both sides, download the single sided version then print, cut & staple.

This is a wonderful resource! Nature is so incredibly important for all of us and kids just don’t get enough of it these days. I would have loved your guide when my kids were little. I’ll definitely have to pass this along to some of my friends who have kids in this age range.
What a great resource! Thanks for sharing.
So glad you like it! Thanks for stopping by 🙂
This is a great idea! Anything to get kids outside and exploring nature more. I am so grateful my kids get that opportunity since so many just don’t have time or access to the great outdoors!
Yes definitely – I always feel like I need to be more responsible and get my kids outdoors more!

LOVE this! We have just been planning a hike to do next week in our homeschool. This will help keep the kids on track and enjoying more than just what’s at the top. Thanks so much for making this! It is printing out as I type this. 🙂
You seriously made my day! I spent hours and hours on this and while we fully enjoyed it, it’s such an amazing feeling to think of other families benefiting from my work. Come back and let me know how it went!! 🙂

We love exploring nature. In fact, we were just in a forest yesterday with our nature tools and notebooks. You put together a nice guide. Sharing
Thanks so much – it’s definitely something we’re working on doing more of. Do you use any nature tools or resources other than what I listed in the guide? I’m always curious about what other families use! 🙂
Oh wow! Is this ever fabulous! I love all the items to really encourage that exploration of nature!
Thanks for sharing (and for linking up to the #SHINEbloghop).
Wishing you a lovely day.

Hi,
I am a retired teacher and conducting Nature Experience field trips for the district Kindergarten students at our school forest. I was planning to run the Nature Explore Guides off and use this great resource with the families. Is this ok? What a wonderful website!
Thanks for letting me know. I am sure my friends who homeschool are familiar with this website, if not, I will certainly make them aware.
Sincerely,
Pat
Hi Pat – Thank you so much for your consideration! It makes me so happy that you like this enough to print for your whole group 🙂 Absolutely you can use them for the group. As long as you don’t sell or host online you’re good. Thanks again, and I hope you all have a wonderful nature hike! 🙂
Thank you so much. We will enjoy!
So excited to use this! Thank you,
